TARA WILKINSON I HEADWATERS
Photography+ Imagination
1 April - 30 June, 2023
Photography has been around for close to 200 years now. In its purist form, photography focuses on capturing the light and is grounded in showing reality.
With digital art photography, the pushing and pulling of what reality was in an image becomes what the art represents and not the reality itself. The value in digital art that begins with a photograph is that the artist can stay true to what they want to communicate with the viewer from start to completion without the worry of breaking any rules. Canadian fine art photographer, Tara Wilkinson, introduces her latest body of work "HEADWATERS" created thru the exploration of photography + imagination. For this show, Tara photographed streams, rivers, ponds and lakes ... then returned to her studio where she transferred the images into her computer and then applied digital paintbrushes and her imagination to transform the images into dreamlike works of art. "There is something about smaller bodies of water that draws me in ... micro-worlds lie just below the surface. I admire the strength and resilience of the life there that refuses to be swept away by the current. The dark places among the reeds and the rocks are a mystery calling out from the shadows. There is so much beauty to behold, to be discovered.
From hardware to software, the resulting digital art photographs of Wilkinson's "HEADWATERS" are brimming with life and wonder ... and can even feel out of this world".
